FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION MEMBER ESCAPES DISSIDENT REBEL CAPTIVITY IN NARIÑO

José Ólger Melo Charry, a Colombian national and active member of the French Foreign Legion, successfully fled from the dissident faction known as the Estado Mayor Central, led by the rebel commander known as 'Iván Mordisco'. The soldier had been held against his will since early August following his abduction in the rural region of Cumbitara, located in the department of Nariño, Republic of Colombia.

According to official reports provided by local military authorities, the escape concluded after four grueling days of continuous movement through dense, hostile terrain. Melo Charry navigated the mountainous geography entirely on his own before reaching safety. He arrived by his own means at the El Ejido Police Substation in the municipality of Policarpa, Nariño, where security forces immediately verified his identity and provided initial assistance.

Given the volatile security conditions in the area, official security protocols were triggered immediately upon his arrival. An Army helicopter was deployed to evacuate the serviceman from the area, transferring him to a specialized facility for medical evaluation and physical assessment. Military personnel indicated that he was stabilized prior to his transport to ensure his physical integrity after days of intense physical exertion.
