Security operations in southern Mexico resulted in the capture of 16 suspected members of the criminal group known as "Los Ardillos," including an individual identified as a financial operator for the organization. The State Attorney General's Office of Guerrero confirmed that the actions took place following recent violent outbreaks in the municipality of Juan R. Escudero, Guerrero, Mexico.
The coordinated security deployment extended across several key localities, including the communities of Pablo de Galeana, Río Verde, and Xaltianguis. The operations involved joint forces from the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Guerrero State Police, and state prosecutors.
During the inter-agency operation, security forces seized substantial materiel and contraband, which included:
- 12 firearms of various calibers
- More than 36,700 rounds of live ammunition
- Packages containing suspected illegal narcotics
- 10 commercial slot machines
- Multiple motorcycles and one passenger vehicle
The crackdown comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the tragic death of a National Guard member. Prior to his death, the officer appeared in a video recorded while he was being held captive, describing an alleged operational scheme utilized by local criminal groups. According to his statements, illicit organizations attempted to gather information regarding security movements to monitor rival factions and dispute strategic territories across Juan R. Escudero, El Ocotito, and Xaltianguis.
"The statements were made while the officer was deprived of his liberty, so they do not constitute proven facts on their own. However, they form part of the background under investigation," official context indicated.
The State Attorney General's Office confirmed that human remains discovered on September 5 in the community of Plan de Lima belong to four individuals, including the missing security officer. Investigative bodies are now focusing on solving the homicides while examining the structural network and potential operational reach of the organization in the central region of Guerrero.
