SURVIVOR OF THE 1985 TACUEYÓ MASSACRE SHARES HISTORICAL TESTIMONY

Decades after the tragic events that shook the department of Cauca, the harrowing account of a survivor from the infamous Tacueyó massacre continues to resonate as a powerful reminder of the human cost of violence. Juan Antonio Mosquera Parra was only fifteen years old in 1985 when he was forcibly recruited into the Ricardo Franco Front, an insurgent faction led by commander Javier Delgado.

The dark chapter known as the Tacueyó massacre unfolded between October and December of 1985, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 264 individuals amidst internal purges within the armed group. Amidst the terror and investigation of these atrocities, veteran journalist Raúl Benoit encountered young Juan Antonio and intervened, successfully advocating for the adolescent's release. Shortly thereafter, the teenager was returned to his family home in Tacueyó, located in the municipality of Toribío, Department of Cauca, Colombia.

Years later, investigative efforts allowed journalist Raúl Benoit to reconnect with Mosquera Parra. By 2002, at the age of 32, Juan Antonio shared the chilling details of his survival and experiences during those dark months in an interview conducted by journalist Julián Ríos. These profound testimonies and historical accounts are documented extensively in Raúl Benoit’s investigative book titled “Prohibido Decir Toda la Verdad”.
