According to preliminary reports, the incident originated during an operation conducted by agents of the Fiscalía General de la República to execute an arrest warrant at the intersection of Punta Mayorga Boulevard and Sierra Mulata Circuit, located in the Lomas del Mirador neighborhood. The procedure escalated into a shootout that extended toward Sierra Denali and Sierra Norte streets within the same residential area.
