Authorities in the department of Nariño have launched an investigation following an assault on National Police officers during a noise control procedure in Potosí. Two individuals have been placed under house arrest in connection with the incident.

Authorities in the municipality of Potosí, located in the southern region of the department of Nariño, Colombia, are investigating a violent altercation in which members of the National Police were physically assaulted and one officer was stripped of his official service firearm.

According to official reports provided by law enforcement, the incident occurred on October 24, 2026, following citizen complaints regarding individuals consuming alcoholic beverages inside a vehicle while playing music at high volume. When officers arrived at the scene to conduct a routine inspection, a group of individuals—preliminarily reported to be under the influence of alcohol—confronted and physically overwhelmed the police personnel.

During the altercation, one of the officers was forcibly disarmed. Local residents recorded video footage of the incident, which subsequently circulated across social media platforms, showing the physical struggle between civilians and the uniformed officers in the municipality.

"The National Police explicitly rejects all acts of violence directed against public servants performing their duties and urges the public to resolve disputes through legal channels," official representatives stated regarding the incident.

Following the event, law enforcement officials confirmed the apprehension of two individuals on October 24, 2026. The suspects were presented before a judicial authority, which subsequently ordered a preventive detention measure restricting them to their place of residence. The identity and official names of the suspects and the involved officers have not been released by authorities.

Local media outlets, including Diario del Sur, reported on the circulation of the footage and confirmed that judicial authorities maintain an active investigation to identify and prosecute all remaining participants in the assault. Official sources have not specified whether the service weapon has been recovered or the current medical status of the officers.
