Two brothers received a prison sentence exceeding 29 years in Nogales, Sonora, after being convicted of forced disappearance committed by private individuals and aggravated assault following an incident reported in October 2024.

A court in the municipality of Nogales, Sonora, handed down a formal conviction against two brothers identified as Christopher Manuel and Jorge, imposing a sentence of 29 years, 2 months, and 3 days in prison for their criminal responsibility in acts of forced disappearance committed by private individuals and aggravated assault.

According to official judicial documentation and findings established during the criminal proceedings, the events transpired on October 12, 2024. On that date, the two individuals, accompanied by additional accomplices, were traveling through the Lomas del Sol neighborhood in Nogales with the intent to intercept and unlawfully detain a man identified as Vicente.

During the execution of the abduction, a female family member of the victim, identified as Joaquina Elizabeth, attempted to intervene to stop the forced deprivation of liberty. In response, the assailants opened fire, inflicting a gunshot wound to her leg before fleeing the location with the abducted individual.

The judicial authority confirmed that, as of October 2, 2026, the physical location of Vicente remains unknown. The circumstances surrounding his ongoing disappearance were fully integrated into the case file and proved beyond reasonable doubt during the judicial process handled by the judicial authorities of the state.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court ordered both convicted individuals to pay a joint financial fine amounting to 490,519 Mexican pesos as part of the legal sanctions required by applicable penal codes.
