According to information provided by the Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora, an operational deployment carried out in the municipality of Agua Prieta resulted in the death of a suspect identified as Ernest "N" or Ernesto "N", a 30-year-old United States citizen with a criminal record in his country of origin.
The events originated from an investigation into the murder of dentist Amed de Jesús Preciado Hernández, aged 42, which occurred on October 15 in the parking lot of a commercial plaza located in the Kennedy neighborhood of Nogales, Sonora. Official reports indicate that the suspect stalked the victim and shot him repeatedly while the dentist was inside a Ford Lobo pickup truck outside his office.
Investigators established that the motive behind the attack was related to a dental procedure, as the suspect held the professional responsible for a loose tooth following treatment. Security camera footage gathered during the investigation recorded the victim pleading for his life before the attack was carried out.
Following investigative work, officers from the Agencia Ministerial de Investigación Criminal (AMIC), in coordination with municipal police forces, located the suspect on October 17 at a residential property in the Ejidal 2 neighborhood, specifically on 19th Street between 18th and 19th Avenues in Agua Prieta.
Upon attempting to execute the arrest warrant, security elements were fired upon by the suspect. Law enforcement officers repelled the aggression, neutralizing the attacker at the scene. During the confrontation, two officers sustained injuries:
- An AMIC agent suffered a graze wound to the head.
- A municipal police officer sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
The Fiscalía General de Justicia del Estado de Sonora confirmed that both injured officers received medical attention and are out of danger. The institution recognized the actions of the participating personnel in neutralizing the threat and fulfilling the judicial order.
